Consumer Alerts – June 2012: CASE advisory on The Discovery Group Pte Ltd
From February 2012 till date, CASE received cases from at least 11 consumers with regards to the contracts they signed with The Discovery Group Pte Ltd. The said 11 consumers have asked CASE to help them cancel their contracts with The Discovery Group Pte Ltd. Considering that the Discovery Group Pte Ltd was incorporated in Singapore only in February 2012, this is an alarming trend that CASE would like to highlight to consumers.
According to what CASE understand from the affected consumers, they have existing timeshare contracts with another company and were told about one or more of the following*:
*Note: The list is not exhaustive.
Fees paid range from $200 to $7000.
CASE would like to remind consumers to exercise prudence especially when they are dealing with companies that claim to handle their existing timeshare contracts for them for a fee.
In addition, we urge consumers to take time to evaluate any company or business which initiated contact and offer attractive solutions to their problems. In particular, consumers should check how long the company or business has been in existence and their track record in settling consumers’ problems in the ways offered or described. So far, CASE has not heard of any successful termination by timeshare-related companies. When in doubt, consumers should not sign any contract or agreement or make any payment. It would be best not to visit the company’s or business’ premises alone.
Should consumers require our assistance with their timeshare or timeshare-related membership(s), they can speak to one of our Consumer Relations Officers by either calling our hotline at
between 9 am and 5 pm from Mondays to Fridays and between 9 am and 12 noon on Saturdays or visiting us at our Ghim Moh office between 9 am and 4 pm from Mondays to Saturdays, excluding Public Holidays. If you have an issue you want to tell us about, e-mail us: sayit@case.org.sg End |
The admin probably want to write an article on Crown Holiday Exchange. Because of the attention it is getting for Cours Montreux, Discovery VIII, Jerry Tan is now re-using Crown Holiday Exchange (an older registered company) to scam people. The registered office is the same as Cours Montreux or Discovery VIII at Regency House.
ReplyDeletethey have incorporated a new company name Lifestyle Pacific International P/L with the same director and same registered address as Cours Montreux.
ReplyDeletenew office @ 300 beach road The Concourse #33-04/06
ReplyDeleteJust got conned by Lifestyle Pacific and they claim to move to 20 Teck Lim Road. Credit card deducted says Emperor Travels.
ReplyDeleteGo make Police Report and report it to the bank as well. I also got conned by Lifestyle International Pacific. Signed contract in their Regency House Office and went there the next few days the office is no longer there. They gave address as 20B Teck Lim Road. This is not their office. Made a Police Report and complained to CASE.
DeleteDawn, from your credit card slip, are you able to share which bank's credit card facility that Emperor Travels is using?
DeleteEditor please write a short article to inform about their change of address to 20B Teck Lim Road.
ReplyDeleteThis will alert victims and existing members about them.
Went to listen some talk by Asia pacific bullion n got this $400 voucher to purchase branded bag.... I wonder if is a hOax too....the
ReplyDeleteIt is operated by the same Cours Montreux crooks.
DeleteThe add of the investment talk n the branded bag are of listed above - at concourse #33. 2 different companies....
ReplyDeleteJust checked....the owner of The Discovery Group Pte Ltd also owns Disocvery VIII and iDiscover now....i suppose this mean they have the legal right to cancel memberships.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest all victims gather and lodge police report and to CASE as well. Also write to the English and Chinese papers to warn the public and seek help. Unity is strength! Don't let your hard earned money flow to scammers.
ReplyDeleteDon't waste time writing to CASE, frankly speaking they are powerless against them. Go straight to SCT instead.
ReplyDeleteTry not to belittle CASE. I have latest news that CASE has been able to assist some victims due to new evidences and developments. Whether CMI is willing to honour what CASE requests for victims is another issue.
DeleteThe statement of 'waste time writing/ waste time lodging a complaint to CASE' is somewhat irresponsible. By saying this, CASE will end up having MANY LESS cases to fend for victims.
DeleteI hope people will be more diligent to encourage more victims to lodge a complaint with CASE. Remember, to stop a criminal is not NOW. If EVERY victim is also diligent, CMI group of companies will eventually be stopped by the relevant enforcement authorities.
do not be intimidated by this time-sharing cheaters, Discovery Group Pte Ltd = Disocvery VIII= iDiscover=CMI , if they threaten you with letters or lawyer letters, ignore them. They can't do anything or bring you to court, bcos the so call agreement you have signed is not legal document to bring anyone to court. Just my 2-cents
ReplyDeleteThis is an Agreements in mediation are not legally binding however because the parties come to the agreements together they are often more committed to them. Statements and admissions made in mediation are without prejudice and cannot be used in court.
I have get CASE and SCT assistance but they still refuse to pay even with a money order.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone claim against them successfully?

Any idea if The Discovery Group Pte Ltd has anything to do with Discovery Reports Limited (www.discoveryreports.com/)? Received an email to "arrange a meeting with [the Company's CEO] for a special business development report we are producing on Malaysia that will be published in the South China Morning Post newspaper, as well as on its website, the SCMP.com on March 21, 2014" Sounds fishy.
ReplyDeletewhat we can do now? nothing to do against them?
ReplyDeleteAre they still around and operating? I foolishly go pay the subscription fees again after getting the cash rebate. So stupid I never learn my lesson..
